Foam concrete

In modern construction, the focus is on quality, ecology, energy saving, time saving and economic efficiency. All this can be achieved with one material – foam concrete.

Foam concrete is a modern material that can be safely said to enable easier and safer construction in the future.

Foam concrete is a type of light porous concrete. The pores are closed and uniformly distributed. They are created by mechanically mixing pre-made foam, cement and/or water.

The structure of foam concrete conditions a complex of physical and mechanical properties, which makes it a highly effective building material. Compared to other lightweight concretes, foam concrete represents the future in modern construction.

The use of foam concrete is even more significant today, considering that the use of foam concrete reduces the emission of greenhouse gases, contributes to energy efficiency, and thus protects the human environment.

Foam concrete is ideal for a wide range of applications. It can be produced in the range of density from 400 kg/m3 to 1,600 kg/m3 and in the range of compressive strength from 1 MPa to 15 MPa.

Use:

  • 300-450 kg/m3 for fillings
  • 500-600 kg/m3 light blocks
  • 700-1600 kg/m3 blocks and prefabricated elements.

Advantages of PENOBETON:

Ecology
Foam concrete is an ecologically clean material, produced from completely natural materials. It does not harm people or animals and has no harmful effect on the environment.

Thermal and sound insulation
Thanks to its porous structure, foam concrete is a very good thermal insulation material. Its thermal insulation properties are 3-3.5 times better than classic bricks. By using foam concrete, additional insulation is not required.
Thanks to its unique characteristics, foam concrete can be compared to wood. It “breathes”, retains heat in winter and preserves freshness in summer. The microclimate in houses built of foam concrete is extremely pleasant.

Light weight
A block made of foam concrete is almost three times lighter than a classic brick of the same dimensions, which allows significant savings in transportation costs and the work itself.
Foam concrete is very easy to pour and is very smooth, which allows pouring layers of 40 mm as well as increasing the poured area per unit of time.

Compressive strength
The older the foam concrete is, the higher its compressive strength. After 28 days, the original strength of foam concrete is 3.5-5.0 MPa.

Energy saving
Buildings built from foam concrete have very good thermal insulation characteristics, which reduces heating and cooling costs by up to 40%.

Fire resistance
Foam concrete belongs to the group of non-flammable materials. It can withstand the fire load on one side of the wall for a minimum of 5-7 hours.
Tests were conducted in which a 150 mm thick foam concrete wall was exposed on one side to a temperature of 1200°C for a period of 5 hours, and during that period the temperature on the other side of the wall rose to only 46°C.
Similar tests have been conducted in various parts of the world and all of them show the good characteristics of foam concrete.
What is very important is that when you expose foam concrete to fire, it does not emit harmful or toxic substances, vapors or smoke.

Acoustic properties
Foam concrete absorbs sound very well. This is the main reason why it is used as a sound-insulating layer in multi-storey residential buildings.

Economic efficiency:

  • savings in foundation reinforcement – due to their light weight, foam concrete elements reduce the load by 25-30%
  • savings in transport costs (up to 50%) – foam concrete is produced on the construction site itself and there is no need to use cranes
  • savings in labor costs – less number of necessary workers
  • time saving – very easy and quick to pour and no need to use a vibrator
  • savings in the costs of finishing works (15-20%) – the surface layer of foam concrete is smooth, which reduces the need for finishing works
  • savings in energy (up to 40%)
  • due to the reduction of the required thickness of the walls, the usable area in the buildings increases significantly.
